Tiverton Standard Time Ordinance

It is Ordained by the Town Council as follows:

SECTION 1. The standard time for the Town of Tiverton shall be based on the mean civil time of the seventy-fifth degree of longitude west from Greenwich, except that at two o’clock ante meridian on the last Sunday in April of each year the standard time shall be advanced one hour, so as to be based on the mean civil time of the sixtieth degree of longitude west from Greenwich, and at two o’clock ante meridian on the last Sunday in September each year the standard time shall, by the retarding of one hour, be returned to the mean civil time of the seventy-fifth longitude west from Greenwich.

SECTION 2. The Standard time established by Section 1 shall be known and designated as Tiverton Standard Time.

SECTION 3. In all ordinances, orders, rules and regulations relating to the time of performance of any act by an officer of the Town of Tiverton, or relating to the time within which any rights shall accrue or determine, or within which any ordinance, order, rule or regulation shall not be performed by any person subject to the jurisdiction of the Town, it shall be understood and intended that the time shall be Tiverton Standard Time.

SECTION 4. Nothing in this ordinance contained shall be construed as providing that Tiverton Standard Time shall govern the movement of common carriers engaged in interstate or foreign commerce.

SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and all ordinances and parts of ordinances inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.
